After a week of reports of Equine Herpes Virus Type 1, also known as "neurologic EHV" or "nEHV", cases and positive tests among a group of cutting horses who attended an event in Utah earlier this month, the usual state-by-state management of case reports will be taken over by a federal coordination plan implemented by the US Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service's Veterinary Service division. The move came at the request of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and American Horse Council on May 17; the two groups worked together and requested national coordination. This is the first of two articles by The Jurga Report on AAEP/AHC information related to the EHV outbreak.
